MANITOBA'S: "BEST OF MANHATTAN"
Handsome Dick's bar, Manitoba's (99 Ave. B, between 6th and 7th Sts.), was named Best Venue for Free Local Rock in the Sept. 27-Oct. 3 issue of the alternative weekly New York Press.
The newspaper's annual "Best of Manhattan" issue cited the bar's "$2.50 Rheingolds" and the fact that "Manitoba's succeeds in making you feel at home" among reasons for the distinction.
DICTATORS ELIGIBLE FOR ROCK HALL
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced on May 16 those artists newly eligible to be inducted into the Hall in 2001. The Dictators made the 29-act list. Artists become eligible when 25 years have passed since the release of their first album. Eligibility does not equal induction: The Dictators are not among the 15 nominees selected for induction in 2001.
Of course, the Dictators already have a presence in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. The Punk showcase on the lower level of the Cleveland museum features Handsome Dick's garb from the cover of The Dictators Go Girl Crazy!, from the red-sequined jacket down to the white "HDM" boots.
THE NEW DICTATORS CD
Now that the new website is up and running, we will be giving regular updates on the band's progress. We've been getting a lot of inquiries about the new CD, so here is the official status.......The CD is 90% finished; we are currently shopping a licensing deal which means that the Dictators own the master tapes as opposed to a record company owning the master tapes. We want to be "masters of our own domain," just like the Artist Formerly Known as Prince. Be prepared for a record with a wide variety of styles, but rest assured that every song is guaranteed, 100% rock!!!
THE SONG TITLES ARE.........
Who Will Save Rock and Roll?
I Am Right!
Jim Gordon Blues
Your Loser Mentality
What's Up With That?
The Savage Beat!
Find Something Beautiful
I Feel Alright!
An unnamed instrumental
A LOVE SONG THAT DOESN'T SUCK
A February article in the Arizona Republic newspaper included the Dictators' "Hey Boys" in its list of "Love Songs That Don't Suck." Unsurprisingly, Morris Albert's "Feelings" was No. 1 on the "Suck" list. Click here to view both lists: Love Songs
WIN A GUITAR SIGNED BY ROSS
